The Galleries provides supported housing designed exclusively for single ex service personnel facing homelessness. Opened in November 2002, The Galleries is situated in the heart of the picturesque and lively North Yorkshire market town of Richmond.
The Galleries provides temporary accommodation in the form of 13 self-contained fully furnished studio flats, each with its own living space, shower room with wash basin and wc, and a fully fitted kitchen containing a cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery. In addition there is an IT room, designed solely for residents, with two computer systems for preparing CVs, writing job applications or just chilling out playing games or music.
With an electronic door entry system and 24 hour CCTV, The Galleries offers a safe, secure and comfortable living environment. It has dedicated and trained supported housing staff on site throughout the day and evening familiar with problems that former military personnel face during their transition to civilian life. The Galleries staff will also access other services that residents may require or benefit from during their stay, such as War Pensions advice, SSAFA, RBL etc.
On the day they move in residents are allocated a member of staff who will be their keyworker. The keyworker will offer support and advice about benefits, further education, employment and personal issues to help residents prepare for independent living and move on housing. All residents are expected to participate in the keyworker system.
During their stay at The Galleries residents are invited to take part in various activities including football matches, barbecues, quiz nights, publishing a monthly newsletter and residents meetings. SPACES will continue to help find appropriate permanent accommodation for residents of The Galleries.
